You either love her or hate her. I have never met or heard of anyone on the fence. If you hate her you say she can’t sing, she isn’t pretty (ok, she is a pretty blonde, but she isn’t gorgeous like other famous singers), and she is petty or too clean or or or. There are tons of reasons why people hate her. I am on the other side. I love TS. Not because she has the best voice or the best looks, but because she writes all of her own songs. She shares her heart in every song, because every song came from her heart. She is honest is saying she doesn’t want to tarnish her image, and she doesn’t. She follows through. And while she may not be taking a stand for Christians or claim to be a Christian publicly, I am not ashamed to say I love TS as a Christian. She doesn’t cuss up a storm in interviews as some other (equally famous or even more famous) singers do. She is who she is and she isn’t ashamed of that. I respect her for this. I respect her for being honest in interviews and sharing that she doesn’t know where she wants to go next or who she wants to be in five years. She is living her dream in the here and now not looking forward to next year because she knows it may not last. If I ever get the chance to meet her I won’t be a fan falling all over myself and unable to speak because I’m finally talking to “her.” Rather, I will recognize that she is a person just like me, she is human. She has her flaws as we all do, and she shares them with the world.
You can make fun of me for liking TS if you wish. (But what is this culture of people who not only hate TS but make fun of those who do? They have made it into a “bad thing” to like her, as if your taste in music utterly fails if you have TS music on your mp3 player) I will be the first to admit I would rather listen to Carrie Underwood’s voice than hers. But I greatly enjoy TS’s take on the world. I love hearing her view of a breakup or a mean person, or a chance meeting with someone amazing. In short, I love that she writes her own music and shares it from her heart.
